A comprehensive team-building programme based
on a problem-solving discipline of seven stages. The purpose and importance of
each stage in the process is explained and a game or activity is provided so that
participants can learn how to improve team performance. The programme also
examines the importance of the working climate - how can a team ensure that
the climate is conducive to good problem solving? The programme can be delivered
over an extended period with each session lasting between 30 and 90 minutes or
can be delivered in its entirety over a period of 2 days. The programme
is designed for groups of between 5-12 members and comes complete with enough
materials for two groups.
OBJECTIVE
To improve a team’s ability to make robust
decisions and reap the benefits associated with teamwork. It will:
- Encourage participants to see problem solving
as a disciplined process at which they can become steadily more skilled.
- Demonstrate the relationship between the working
climate of a group and its ability to operate procedures effectively.
- Increase the effectiveness of any team that works
through the full sequence of exercises by giving them a common learning experience.
HOW IT WORKS
The Team Builders Toolkit uses activities
of two different types:
- Sequential activities, which relate to solving
the problem.
- Continuous activities, which relate to the working
climate.
The activities are presented in seven stages.
At each stage the tutor introduces a game, simulation or exercise that is specifically
related ether to one part of the problem solving process or to the creation of
a co-operative working climate. The participants undertake the activity, reflect
on their performance and share their experiences in a post-activity review led
by the tutor.
FOR WHAT LEVELS IS IT APPROPRIATE?

with participants from all backgrounds and all management levels.
