The core skill at Elgood Effective Learning is creating business simulations. A simulation is a model of a system: an industrial, social or organisational system. It allows individuals to assume a role, take decisions and discover the consequences.
Business Benefits:
Business simulations show:
- How an existing system works and/or
- How a proposed system will work and the changes that will be required.
They promote understanding for those with knowledge of a small area by demonstrating how their part interacts with other parts and enables them to cooperate more effectively. For those with wider responsibilities it demonstrates how the component parts of a system are linked and enables them to take decisions that will have maximum benefit for the whole organisation.
Selecting the best type of simulation for your business needs:
There are a variety of different ways in which systems can be modeled. The most widely used include:
- Numbers-based simulations in which managerial decisions are expressed quantitatively and results are expressed in financial terms.
- Table-top models in which players encounter a series of realistic problems described for them in words. They make choices about what to do and experience the consequences.
- Role-plays in which participants respond to each other freely within a broad framework of rules.
- Structured problems in which the optimum solution can only be reached by demonstrating particular skill.

Working with us:
We offer a flexible range of services that can be accessed on a mix and match basis to suit individual need. The most popular arrangements are:
- Game design and facilitation - one-off use. We design a business simulation game to be the focus of a particular event and provide facilitation at the event.
- Game design - repeated use. We design a business simulation game in consultation with the client to meet agreed objectives. The game is then incorporated into the client's own training programme.
- Game design with facilitation support. We design the game as above and provide facilitation support during the initial stages of use. This arrangement is preferred where the client has low staffing levels, is new to the use of business simulation games or the game represents a significant part of a continuing course.
- Course design. A member of the Elgood team will work with the client organisation from initial course design through game design to facilitation of the course and final evaluation. This arrangement is particularly beneficial where the game is part of a programme using a variety of different delivery methods.
